What Is Silicon Carbide Igniter?

A silicon carbide igniter is a type of hot surface igniter (HSI) that uses an electrically heated silicon carbide element to ignite a gas burner. When current passes through the element, its surface heats to the temperature needed for ignition. Depending on the equipment design, the igniter may be supplied as an element or an assembly with a ceramic base, lead wires, connectors and mounting hardware.
