Home / Ceramic Tubes / Ceramic Burner Tube / Alumina Ceramic Tubes Open Both Ends
ADCERAX manufactures alumina ceramic tubes open both ends to your drawing. The dense alumina body is electrically insulating, chemically resistant and dimensionally stable at high temperature, which suits tube furnaces, process gas and flow-through lines, sensor sheaths and insulating sleeves.
Send your service temperature, atmosphere and support arrangement, and we will match the grade.
An alumina ceramic tube open both ends is a high-temperature Al2O3 ceramic tube with both ends accessible for gas flow, probe insertion, wire routing, furnace processing or insulation assemblies. Compared with closed-end tubes, the open-ended design allows continuous passage through the tube and easier integration with fittings, seals, furnace chambers and sensor structures.
Use the listed OD, ID and length to shortlist a tube geometry. For a required fit, mark the critical tolerances, end finish, support and sealing interfaces on a drawing or sample. Confirm the material and final specification against the operating conditions during quotation review.

A tube open at both ends is used wherever something has to pass through, or move through, a hot or chemically active zone — a sample, a gas stream, a lead, a shaft. The common cases are below. Check the one closest to your assembly.
The tube forms the furnace work chamber, allowing samples to be loaded from one end and process gas to flow through to the other. It extends through the hot zone, with both ends outside the heated section to help keep seals and fittings cool. The alumina grade is selected to suit the operating temperature, process atmosphere and contamination requirements, while wall thickness and support span are reviewed together with the weight of the tube and its contents to limit deformation during use.
The open bore provides a continuous passage for process gases, vapours or reaction products at elevated temperatures. An alumina grade selected for the process chemistry can help reduce contamination where metal tubing is prone to oxidation or particle shedding. Both ends can connect to suitable fittings, flanges or compression seals, with tube dimensions, sealing surfaces and operating conditions checked together to ensure a compatible assembly.
An alumina tube provides an insulating passage for a thermocouple, heater lead or electrode, helping separate it electrically from the furnace shell and nearby components. The through bore allows connections to be made outside the hot zone and can simplify tube replacement when the assembly is designed for removal.
The listed volume resistivity is a material value measured at 20°C, not an assembly voltage rating. Share the operating voltage, temperature and electrode arrangement so ADCERAX can review the tube geometry and insulation requirements together.
ADCERAX supplies alumina ceramic tubes with both ends open, manufactured to your drawings. To get started, simply send us the outside diameter, inside diameter, length and intended application, and we’ll work with you to confirm the material grade, end details and tolerances during engineering review before preparing a quotation.
Item number or drawing, outside diameter (OD), inside diameter (ID), overall length and wall thickness.
Round bore (Type 1) or square bore in a round tube (Type 2). State which cross-section the assembly needs.
End condition — as-fired, ground, chamfered or lapped — plus any sealing surface, flange or mounting detail at either end.
Surface finish and any critical tolerance shown on the drawing. Mark which dimension is critical to fit.
Required grade — 95%, 96%, 99%, 99.5% or 99.7% — with the service temperature and atmosphere for engineering review.
Agree the bore layout and acceptance criteria before evaluating a sample. Confirm the mating assembly and support arrangement first.
Send the application, drawing or known dimensions (OD, ID, length, wall thickness, end condition) and quantity. Engineering reviews geometry feasibility and grade selection before quotation.
The quote states the confirmed geometry — OD, ID, length, tolerances and lead time. Requested inspection is tested to the agreed specification, not assumed as standard.
The tube is produced to the agreed drawing. Dimensional inspection and order-specified tests are performed before shipment.
Agree the packaging, required inspection documents and delivery schedule in the order specification.

Match three things: the outside diameter against the bore or seal it passes
through, the inside diameter against whatever runs inside it, and the length
against the distance between your mounting points plus the length you need
outside the hot zone. Take OD, ID and length from one row of the size table
rather than mixing values across rows. If the fit is tight, tell us which of the
three is critical — we hold that one and open up the others.
As-fired alumina shrinks during firing, so an as-fired surface is not a precision
surface. Where a dimension has to fit, we grind it after firing and hold the
tolerance on the drawing. Tell us which single dimension the fit depends on and
what it mates to. A tube that is ground on the OD to fit a seal and left as-fired
on the ID costs less than one held tight everywhere, and usually works just as
well.
Alumina is strong and stable at temperature but it is not a thermal-shock
material — cracking is almost always caused by the assembly, not by the grade.
The two common causes are heating or cooling faster than the design allows, and
sealing both ends rigidly so the tube cannot expand. Leave one end free to move,
or use a seal that allows axial movement. Long unsupported spans and forcing a
fitting onto the tube are the next two. Send your ramp rate, support points and
seal type and we will review them with you.
Service life depends on the temperature, atmosphere, thermal cycles and how the
tube is loaded, so we do not quote a life figure. What we do hold is the
specification: once a drawing and grade are confirmed, repeat orders are made to
that same drawing and the same grade, so a replacement tube fits the assembly
you already qualified. If your process runs continuously, tell us the cycle count
and we will look at grade and wall thickness together.
At minimum: OD, ID, length and quantity. That is enough for a price on a listed
size. For anything non-standard, add the service temperature, atmosphere and what
the tube mates to at each end — that is what decides grade and end finish. A
drawing or a photo of your current part is the fastest route; it removes a round
of questions. If you are qualifying us, ask for a sample against agreed
acceptance criteria before committing to a production quantity.
