Magnesium oxide (MgO) ceramic is a magnesia-based technical ceramic used where a part must insulate electrically while surviving high temperature and chemical attack. It is the standard insulation material inside cartridge and sheathed heaters, thermocouples and mineral-insulated cable, and a preferred crucible material for alkaline and specialty-alloy melting.
Yes. Magnesium oxide is a true ceramic — an inorganic, non-metallic compound formed by sintering, not melting. That makes it hard, brittle and highly heat-resistant.
As insulators, tubes, crucibles and plates, MgO keeps its insulation and dimensional stability under rapid heating, furnace duty and alkaline melt contact.
Unlike alloys that creep or polymers that deform, MgO holds geometry and insulation at extreme temperatures — less maintenance, longer equipment life.
Magnesium oxide ceramics combine high thermal stability, strong electrical insulation and alkaline corrosion resistance for demanding thermal environments. Dense sintered MgO is used for furnace components, heater and sensor insulation, and crucibles — with exact service temperature confirmed by grade, atmosphere and part geometry.
| Property | Typical Reference | What it means for your part |
|---|---|---|
| Max service temperature | 1800–2000 °C (material reference) | Exact continuous rating confirmed by grade, atmosphere and geometry |
| Thermal conductivity | 30–60 W/m·K | Conducts heat while still insulating electrically — the reason MgO is used in heaters and MI cable |
| Dielectric strength | High (test values on request) | Suitable for heater, sensor and cable insulation |
| Volume resistivity | Very high at room temperature | Low leakage current in insulation duty |
| Density / purity | 3.5 g/cm³ typical, high-purity grades | Dense grade for machined parts; crushable grade for filled heater cores |
| Chemical fit | Excellent in alkaline service | Crucibles and linings for alkaline, rare-earth and specialty-alloy melts |
| Moisture | Hygroscopic — store dry | Dry-packed by ADCERAX; dry storage recommended |

ADCERAX supplies magnesium oxide (MgO) ceramics for high-temperature, electrical, and chemical use. Our crucibles, rods, tubes, and plates feature high insulation, corrosion resistance, and stability under extreme heat. Each part is made from high-purity MgO for long life and reliable performance.
Melts alkaline, rare-earth and specialty alloys without contaminating your sample — where alumina crucibles are attacked.
Insulating cores for cartridge and sheathed heaters — wound with resistance wire, machined to your diameter and length.
Single and multi-hole insulation tubes for thermocouples, heaters and MI cable — bore and hole pitch to your print.
Insulating plates, setters and spacers for furnace and heater assemblies — flat, machined and stable at temperature.
MgO is specified where a part must insulate electrically, survive furnace-level heat, or hold an alkaline melt without contaminating it. These are the four duties ADCERAX supplies most often.
MgO insulators, multi-hole tubes and cores insulate resistance wire in cartridge and sheathed heaters, thermocouple assemblies and mineral-insulated cable — conducting heat out while blocking current.
Furnace tubes, supports, setters and insulating plates hold shape and insulation through repeated heating cycles in sintering, calcining and heat-treatment furnaces.
MgO crucibles and linings resist alkaline melts and slags in nickel-based superalloy, platinum-group and rare-earth melting, keeping the melt free of contamination.
Crucibles, boats and plates for alkaline sample fusion, ashing and high-temperature calcination, where sample purity decides the result.

Provide higher - level dimensional accuracy and concentricity control than the standard.
Flanges, steps, threads, drilling holes, grooves, etc.
Adjust the material according to the application requirements.
Polish and grind the surface to achieve a specific surface roughness.
Send us your drawing, CAD file, or physical sample with material grade, dimensions, tolerances, and quantity. Our engineers will evaluate the design and provide a detailed quotation with lead time and pricing.
Once the quote is approved, we proceed with sample prototyping (1–50 pcs) if needed, for testing and validation.
After sample approval or direct confirmation, we begin batch manufacturing using CNC machining, sintering, and polishing. All parts undergo dimensional checks, material purity testing, and surface finish inspection.
Finished products are securely packed and shipped via DHL/FedEx/UPS or your preferred method. We support global delivery with full documentation.

Yes. Magnesium oxide is an inorganic, non-metallic compound formed into parts by pressing and sintering rather than melting — the defining route for a technical ceramic. That gives MgO its hardness, high melting point, chemical stability and electrical insulation, while still conducting heat well.
Dense sintered MgO is used for machined insulators, insulation tubes, crucibles and plates that must hold geometry and tolerance. Crushable or loose MgO is a compacted filler used inside sheathed heaters and MI cable, applied and swaged in your line. Telling us dense vs crushable — or simply the heater or cable it goes into — lets us confirm grade and quote accurately.
Choose MgO when the part contacts alkaline melts and slags, or when you need strong electrical insulation combined with good thermal conductivity, as in heater and thermocouple insulation. Choose alumina for acidic media, higher mechanical load, or general high-temperature structural service. Alumina is harder and stronger; MgO resists alkaline attack that alumina does not. ADCERAX supplies both — tell us the duty and we will recommend the right one.
No. MgO ceramic is a magnesia material used for insulation, crucibles and high-temperature parts. Magnesium-stabilized zirconia is a zirconia (ZrO₂) ceramic that uses only a small amount of MgO as a stabilizer, with very different strength, toughness and temperature behaviour. If you need MSZ or Mg-PSZ, that is a separate material — tell us your duty and we will point you to the right one.
ADCERAX supplies MgO insulators and multi-hole insulation tubes, plain tubes, rods, plates and setters, crucibles and boats, and refractory or filter parts. Standard geometries are available, and most work is made to customer drawings.
Yes. Send a drawing, photo or a failed part, and our engineers review geometry, grade and duty before quoting. We machine bore, hole count and pitch, OD/ID, length, wall, steps, grooves and end-forms to your print — down to ±0.05 mm depending on part size and feature.
MgO is a very high-temperature material, with published references commonly citing service in the 1800–2000 °C range. The temperature your part can actually run at depends on the grade, atmosphere, contact media and geometry, so ADCERAX confirms a working temperature on engineering review rather than quoting a single figure.
MgO combines electrical insulation with good thermal conductivity — an unusual pairing that makes it the standard insulation core in heaters, thermocouples and MI cable — and it resists alkaline melts that attack alumina. The table below compares MgO with alumina, zirconia, silicon nitride and silicon carbide across bonding, insulation, thermal behaviour and cost.
Yes. ADCERAX supplies OEM manufacturers, refractory and foundry consumable distributors, and laboratory suppliers — from trial batches through to scheduled repeat production. Tell us your expected annual volume and part range so we can plan grade consistency, batch inspection and dry packaging accordingly.
